If you are like thousands of other non-custodial parents in California, you are scouring the internet looking for ways to get custody of your child.  You want to know the process you have to go through to convince the court to award you primary physical custody.  You want to know the right lawyer to hire.  You want to know how you can show the judge that your child should be living with you, not the other parent.  Here are two tips on how to be better prepared to have your child move in with you permanently.
First, make sure you have found the best school and/or day care provider for your child.  Does your child have special needs? Does your child excel in a certain area?  Does your child need smaller or larger classrooms?  Does your child need more interaction with children his or her own age, or does he need interaction with older or younger children?  Is cost for day care an issue?
You must consider all the above questions, and dozens more, and pick the right school and/or day care for your child.  You need to have this information ready before you go to court, so you can show the judge that you are prepared to have your child in your home.
Second, does your child have friends in the neighborhood to play with?  Does your child have friends at the church you frequent?  Do you know what kind of extracurricular activities would be interested in being involved in in your area?
You must consider the social and recreation needs of your child and how the move will affect him or her in those ways.  Make sure you do your homework so that a network of good peers will be available to accept him or her into their circle.  Make sure your child has an activity for an outlet.  Again, you will want to have this information ready before you go to court so that you can convince the judge that your child will be happy in your care.
There are many other things you need to consider in order to prepare to have your child in your home full time.  If you would like more help figuring out what those are, feel free to give us a call at 888-749-7428 we would be happy to discuss any questions you may have.
