A paraplegic woman who communicates by blinking was granted visitation rights with her four-year old triplets last week by a Los Angeles Family Law Judge. Abbie Dorn, who was left in a “minimally conscious” state as a result of her delivery of the triplets, has been fighting for visitation rights for a year in Los Angles County Superior Court. Her ex-husband had argued that she should not be able to visit with the children, as she does not have the means to interact with them.

However, Superior Court Judge Frederick C. Shaller found that it would be in the children’s best interests to have a relationship with their mother. He further stated that the children can interact with their mother and they could actually suffer psychological harm if not allowed to develop a relationship with her. The Judge’s ruling is great news for disabled parents fighting for parental rights of their children.
