HEIDI MONTAG FILES FOR DIVORCE FROM SPENCER PRATT– CALIFORNIA FAMILY CODE SECTION 2310(A)

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

On July 30, 2010, Heidi Montag filed for divorce after a year of marriage to Spencer Pratt, citing irreconcilable differences. They announced their separation in June 2010.

The couple became famous for their role on the MTV reality show “the Hills,” and their April 2009 wedding ceremony was filmed for the show. Even before they were married, the show often depicted Heidi’s family and friends criticizing Pratt for his erratic behavior, selfishness, and immaturity.

Their brief marriage has also been marked by several well-publicized events, including a stint on the television show, “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here,” and Heidi’s plastic surgery. In January 2010, Heidi admitted to having ten plastic surgery procedures on the same day.

Recent plans for Heidi and another friend to star in their own reality show have been put on hold as Heidi deals with her divorce.

Under California Family Code section 2310(a), a married couple may file for a divorce or legal separation on the basis of irreconcilable differences. Because California is a no-fault divorce state, other circumstances related to the marriage, such as adultery, have no relevance to the dissolution of their marriage.
