It was recently reported that talk show host Larry King has filed for divorce from his wife of 13 years, Shawn Southwick. King, 76, and Shawn Southwick, 50, married in 1997 and have two young sons. It has been alleged that King cheated on Southwick with her sister, Shannon Engemann. King denies the allegation, though Southwick claims she has proof of the affair. It will be the 8th divorce for King, who has been married 7 times, twice to the same woman.

Southwick is seeking primary custody of the children, as well as spousal and child support. Even if King and Southwick had a prenuptial agreement, King may have to pay spousal support to his estranged wife due to California’s unique marriage laws. In the state of California, a judgment for spousal support (also known as alimony in other states) may be permanent if the two parties were married for ten years or more. The judgment for child support varies according to the circumstances of each case. King may have to pay child support to Southwick until his sons turn 18 or may be able to stop payment before his sons reach the adult age.
