If parents cannot agree on how much money is fair and reasonable, outside of court, to take care of their child, the court’s assistance may be requested to order to determine that one parent is to pay the other parent a specific amount of money every month to help pay for a child’s living expenses.

The judge must decide the child support amount based on a guideline calculation. Orange County has adopted the Santa Clara County Method for determining child support.  California has established a formula to calculate guideline child support, called the Dissomaster. Only in very limited circumstances can the judge order something other than the guideline amount of child support. Basic child support does not include the cost of child care or uninsured medical expenses. These additional costs will be added to the child support order.

Since it is very important that the support order is correct  it is important to contact a knowledgeable family law attorney to assist you with your support case.  Wallin & Klarich has more than 30 years of experience in family law.
