Social networking sites these days have become quite popular and have seen a surge of people signing on to sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and MySpace. While these sites are a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, they have also become a useful tool for divorce attorneys.

Social networking sites have overlapped into the area of divorce by these sites as evidence against the other spouse. Essentially, any posts or information shared on these sites can and will likely be used against the author in divorce court or family law related issues in court.

It can cause embarrassment and more seriously, threaten or hurt a spouse’s case in divorce court. Many attorneys today are looking at these sites for evidence that could assist or help their clients in proving many times perhaps that the opposing spouse just bought a new car or jewelry. Or the fact that a supported homemaker and wife obtained a new job or is seeking employment might be posted to a social network and be used against the author.

Many Family law issues more often than not involve custody issues and finances, particularly in divorce cases. Lawyers now are inquiring of their clients whether or not they are active participants in any of these social networking sites to be prepared for any potential fall out of postings and tweets.

Many family law firms have had to adapt to this new age of communication and postings in real live settings.
